Welcome to HoneyChain
Set up your hive tracking in 10 minutes. Let's get your honey verified.
Create Your Account
Open HoneyChain and tap "Get Started".
- Fill in your operation details — name, contact info
- Add your DALRRD registration number if you have one
Part of a co-op? Look out for an email invite from your co-op owner — or tap "Join with an invite" on the sign-in screen. Your account links to the co-op automatically.
Set Up Your Apiaries
An apiary is a group of hives in one location. Add your first one:
- Tap "Record Harvest" or go to Apiaries from the menu
- Tap the + button to add a new apiary
- Give it a name (e.g., "Home Yard", "Mountain Site")
- Mark the location on the map
- Add your hives to the apiary
Register Your NFC Tags
Each NFC tag in your kit has a unique ID. Link them to your hives:
- Go to a hive's detail page
- Tap "Register NFC Tag"
- Hold the tag against the back of your phone
- The tag is now linked to that hive
Where to stick the tag: Inside the hive lid or on the front face. The tags are weatherproof and work through wood.
Record Your First Harvest
When it's harvest time, open HoneyChain and tap "Record Harvest" on the dashboard.
NFC Mode
Walk through your apiary and tap each hive's NFC tag. The app records which hives were harvested, when, and where.
Manual Entry
No NFC tags? Select hives from a list and enter your harvest details manually.
After scanning, enter the harvest weight and any notes. Moisture level is captured later, during processing.
Log Your Processing
After harvesting, you'll be prompted to log how you processed the honey. Answer 8 quick questions:
- Extraction method (spinner, crush & strain, comb)
- Where you processed (honey house, kitchen, outdoors)
- Straining method
- Whether you heated the honey
- Settling time
- Packaging type and count
- Final weight
- Photos and notes (optional)
Create a Batch & Get Your QR Code
Once processing is logged, create a batch for your jars:
- Go to Batches → New Batch
- Select one or more processing records
- Enter the number of jars
- Get your QR code and claim codes
Print the QR code on your labels. Customers scan it to see your honey's full journey from hive to jar.
Claim codes: Each jar gets a unique code. Customers enter it to verify authenticity and earn loyalty points.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if I don't have NFC tags?
You can use manual entry for everything. NFC just makes harvesting faster — tap and go instead of selecting from a list.
What if I don't have signal in the field?
Everything saves to your phone and syncs automatically when you have signal again. You'll see a small "pending" indicator until it syncs.
Can my team or co-op use HoneyChain?
Yes. Co-op owners get a web dashboard to invite farmers by email, organise teams, assign manager roles, and see every harvest in one activity feed — with payout-ready reports at the end of the season.
Is the app available in Portuguese?
Yes — the entire app works in English and Portuguese. Switch languages in Settings or right on the sign-in screen.
Is my location data public?
No. Only your district (e.g., "eThekwini Metropolitan") appears on consumer verification pages. Your exact coordinates are never shared.
What's the QR code for?
Consumers scan it to see your honey's journey — where it was harvested, how it was processed, and when it was packaged. It builds trust and sets your honey apart.
Do I need to be online to use the app?
No. HoneyChain is built offline-first. Record harvests, inspections, and processing in the field. Everything syncs when you have a connection.
